I absolutely #forking love everything about #forking #StarfleetAcademy from the weird fun but very #StarTrek plots, the great characters played by lovely new unknown actors, love the 'adults' who are clearly having fun and the appropriate slightly cheeky sexiness. And guys, Holly Hunter, don't you love Holly Hunter?
@matthijs It took me awhile to warm up to it... at the beginning it was too much love story and boy coming of age story tropes but as the episodes counted up, the story expanded and we left behind that narrow scope and I started to really enjoy it! I like how HH flops around on the furniture all the time. Her almost immortal irreverence for formality is fun to watch.
@Melabee I don't know why, but I even kind of love the love story aspect. Probably because I like the idea of weird high stakes Star Trek Uni that still understands that students are weird hormonal semi-adults. There is a high chance that I get burned out on it after one season though. Paul Giamatti though, wowwww <3
@matthijs You can tell Paul is having a LOT of fun in that role!! I enjoy him so much.
@Melabee yeah it's amazing to see! It's weird how he is chewing the scenery, stealing every moment, with just the right amount of camp, and it doesn't disturb the episode at all. It only adds to it. Really wondering what his big play is going to be.
@matthijs Maybe some kind of showdown with Nahla...?

I just watched the most recent episode. Made me cry at the end. The whole episode felt like "edutainment" - about trauma: how we numb it, how PTSD can short us out, the value of the arts in mental health... the importance of a childhood that grows resilience... they are taking the star trek agenda of modelling a progressive society to a new level!
@Melabee Looking forward to it. I am avoiding a binge, so this week EP. 7 and I will see it next week. I am now trying to figure out where Disco and SNW lost me (disco's last season was just too mweh and the start of the last SNW season was good, but dropped off) to see if I can come to a unified theory for Good Trek.
@matthijs Yeah... I LOVED Disco but then at the end I found myself slogging a bit. I enjoyed SNW more than I thought I would. I think there may be too many variables for a unified theory... but I look forward to your first draft!
@Melabee Damn, episode 8 nearly broke me. Robert Picardo is acting the hell out of this one.
@matthijs It was 800 years ago. It was yesterday.
@Melabee I do think all Star Trek can be improved by the addition of Christobal Rios (and his holograms).
