@icanzilb The good times.

What’s your general feeling about Realm these days? I remember it being pretty cool, and some apps I built used it, like DaftCloud. But after MongoDB shut it down, I can’t really recommend it to anyone anymore. I also know that some people lost their jobs when MongoDB killed the sync features.

I guess I’ve learned my lesson to be cautious with open source projects backed by private companies. Similar situation with Mapbox.

@obrhoff I think it was a fantastic team where everyone was really putting the work. The problem as I saw it was just that it wasn't an evil company 🤷🏽‍♂️ we spent too much time and energy on supporting open source, supporting people and building community, while in retrospect we should've been focused on how to make the most money instead. So at one point Mongo was the only move left, after letting 2/3 of people go 😔

@icanzilb I don’t think it was an evil company or anything. The opposite. It was pretty good, but it feels like the reality of monetizing open source hit Realm. As an outsider, I would not have any idea how it could have turned out differently.

Looking at the Tailwind situation, it has not gotten better in the market either.
