I wonder what the general etiquette on reccing (mostly) fanfics are? Because unlike fanvids or art where they can be reblogged on their native sites, fics are mostly on AO3 and only have word of mouth to spread knowledge of them. I've seen on twitter before where a fic is (negatively or positively) mentioned and then a recent article on The Pitt where the writer straight up linked to fics 😬
Obviously I'm not expecting huge amounts of traffic on anything I post, esp considering *where* I post, but still thought it'd be good to ask about current norms. I assume public AO3 fic = ok to rec, locked fic = ask first? Or just assume that any locked fics don't want to be rec'd at all?
@mashimero I think most public fics are ok to rec as long as your rec is 100% positive, and you know your following/audience is well behaved! Like if a youtuber reads a fic out loud to "cringe" at, that's a very different and undesired audience. Compared to a podficcer or person in the same fandom reccing a fic, that is more likely to bring positive attwntiin.
@scumsuck yeah it’d def be positive, and I’d mostly be posting to dreamwidth or pillowfort, maybe here too. More of an exercise in keeping myself posting and writing more than really promoting it to an audience since these platforms are all very slowpaced. Thanks for your input!
