I'm not really a pro sportsball fan. The Great MLB Strike of '94 sealed the deal on that. But I eventually softened and while I'm not a fan of pro sports still, it's the love of the game and being a hometown girl that keeps a special place in my heart for my Houston Astros.

There was a semi-pro team here in the area that I adopted as my team to cheer on which had the coolest name and so appropriate for our area.
The Sugar Land Skeeters. The mascot was a big mosquito.
But the owners sold to the Astros farm system and was renamed/rebranded as The Space Cowboys. (what... the fuhhhhhhch?)

I love the game though and I love baseball history which is really what this post is about, which comes from a news story I heard on our Houston Public Media station.
It aired this morning as part of #BlackHistoryMonth I love the rich history and important contribution of the Negro League on baseball and our country in general.
And apparently, Houston had a team or two or three that participated in that history.

Tagging my rabid Astros and baseball junkie friend @greene Thought you might like this. ShortGirls4Evah!

@WrenArcher @greene It was the 1994 strike that got me too. It was the icing on the cake of the steroids era. I like local ball though. Our team is an Astros affiliate called the Woodpeckers.

Love the Skeeters, we could use that name up here with Mosquito Lake. Though the dumbasses up here would use the t name. One of the idiot state representatives tried to change the name of the lake during the first administration 🙄

@WrenArcher Ooh, thank you! This looks fascinating. I’m saving it to show to my dad too. #ShortGirls4Eva
