  • Sam Spruell’s delivery is incredible. Maekar is broken and wants to hate Dunk, but hates himself so much that it doesn’t even matter.

Without spoiling anything I’ve always found the second story to be the weakest, especially coming after the perfect story that is The Hedge Knight. With that story starting off with a recap of events we don’t see, I wonder if season 2 will fill in some gaps and include an extra scene where Maekar admits he was wrong and gives his blessings, especially after they travel for a bit.

Perhaps a chance meeting while Maekar is checking in on his other son.

That’s exactly my theory.

What a beautiful ending. Sweetfoot gets a happy ending and all the apples in the world! The start of the Green Apple Fossaways is happening, even if it is a bit peculiar.

And of course our heroes out on the open road with full family blessings. (Right?)

Also confirmed Dunk isn’t knighted. Not a surprise, but I loved the way they handled it. Dunk questioning why he was spared, absolutely destroyed emotionally, and he’s forced to wonder if Ser Arlan really didn’t believe in him. But he sees a young kid, just like him, that needs some guidance, and even he knows he’s a true knight at heart.

A fairly predictable type of season finale but definitely an enjoyable new series that scratched that itch of wanting to see some stories from Westeros while waiting for the new season of House of the Dragon. I have to say a lot of the episodes were fairly uneventful but that’s not so much down to there being any problem with the storytelling. More an issue with the time-limited way of releasing them.
