I think I've accumulated some EV-knowing/having friends on here and/or people who might be able to boost this?

I just got a 2022 Chevy Bolt and am seeking out "least bad alternatives" to a somewhat marginal home charging situation. My car absolutely has to be slightly over 25ft away from where I am pretty sure I can install an outlet.

oh anyway I received some reassuring confirmation that the bolt will recover useful range overnight on 120-volt at 12 amps, even during snowmageddon circumstances, so I'm thinking I might ask for two quotes/visualizations, one for a 120v outlet attached to the front of the house (presuming this'll be quite cheap) and one for a low-amps 240v outlet on a post closer to the sidewalk

but honestly my week is structured that 120 might simply always be enough

@coryw congrats on the new ride! My vote is for the long cord evse. Most flexible and least sketchy if you can get an outlet installed, since you are doing pretty low amps anyways.

@ssmy Thank you! The long-cable EVSE was my aesthetic preference and initial thought as to what'd be least troublesome, presuming that it's otherwise built decently. (big "if", I suppose.)

Aesthetically I prefer the single long-cord EVSE even though it's not code-compliant, but if J1772 extension cords *were* actually code-compliant I can see how that'd be the preferable option.

(Of course nobody has clarified this point lolol.)

@ssmy (the front-running "have you considered...." option is to install a hardwired unit a/o an outlet on a pole at the parking space, which is probably the most expensive and might be the most difficult to get the HOA to approve but sidesteps almost every other problem w/re code and accessible pathways

(which like as a disability-haver myself I'm theoretically aware of.)

@coryw oh yeah if you could sell the outlet at the curb it would be fantastic but sounds expensive. I guess if you are getting an outlet installed anyways, maybe not as much more as I think?
@coryw I have an EVSE that only really reaches inside my garage but often have to park in the driveway (because my Miata is in the garage) so I just use a J1772 extension. Works great. Just make sure to limit the charge current either in the Bolt or via whatever the EVSE provides for that and you’ll be fine.
