Right, I've got my #FourSquare API key and can manually post check-ins to #SwarmApp.

Going to see if I can automatically get them to appear on Mastodon 🙂

@eythian Does it still do that? I just tried a test check-in to a beer and it didn't appear on Foursquare.

I've tried deleting and re-adding the connection, but new checkins aren't showing.

Do they work for you?

@Edent @eythian been broken for me for well over a year, and support told me it's by design and they're not bringing that feature back - that being said if you get a better outcome I'll obviously be delighted to hear that

Actually now you say that, it could be that the check-ins I can see are the result of it doing that pop-up notification rather than via untappd. I didn't consider that.

Swarm sometimes gives a popup location inviting you to check in to a place. If I see that I might press it, but I don't go to the app itself

@eythian @Edent I see. I don't have that, probably because of not permitting the background location access permission. (It does keep nagging me every now and then 😆)

huh, I never noticed (clearly.) I guess that shows how much attention I paid to swarm/foursquare (which have been steadily fading away for the past decade, basically since they split the app in two, but the writing was probably on the wall already before then.)

@eythian @Edent I'm quite surprised Swarm is still a thing to be honest. I have no clue what the business model is. I don't see any ads or anything, and the tips are usually from old timers back when Swarm and Foursquare was one thing.

Do they keep the lights on just by selling my visiting the same breweries every week? Or by selling the location database to Untappd and maybe a few similar services?

But it really isn't dead. Sometimes when I go somewhere for a gig, Swarm asks me if I'm there for that specific gig. And the venue has no idea how they know - I asked them. 😁
