Highly recommend this post. It perfectly captures the internal conflicts and mindset shift I’ve gone through over the last 2 years of coding with AI.

@oskargroth yeah the stealing and stuff doesn't go away and the addiction to something subsidized so much that the same tool in 5y may cost in the thousands ... oof
@ctietze There is no world where current AI tools will cost 5x. There’s already OSS alternatives that are 80% as good as SOTA for 1/10th the cost. If anything, prices will keep crashing from here.

@obrhoff @oskargroth I do come to believe that "l'art pour l'art" in programming and the craft factor may be a symptom of a self-referential system, a community of practice where, like modern fine art, there's no external criterion for "fitness" anymore and it revolves around itself, becoming ever more esoteric.

That's coming from the man who's reading papers on Haskell and FP to purify his coding style.

The EVE Online dude there has a point.

@ctietze @oskargroth Of course, he is right.

It's like people that only drink expensive coffee or wine. You can say you can taste the difference, but most of it is just building your identity around it, gatekeeping and convincing yourself that your role in society is important.

In the end, it’s still just drinking coffee.
