Been trying to find the right words to talk about this.

I left my #infosec job recently. Good pay, great coworkers, but the fit was gone, and I wanted to leave on my own terms.

I don't know what comes next.

What I do know is that I'm sleeping better, and I'm more relaxed. Aside from additional adulting tasks like worrying about family health insurance (USA), I get to decide how my time is spent.

If burnout has you, know that rest is not giving up. You are a human being, not a human doing.

@pseudonym I did that last year. Told myself that I was taking at least 3 months off and that I wasn’t allowed to start searching for a job during those three months. Basically gave myself permission to not worry. It was a good move - I really enjoyed my time off.

And totally by luck, I found a job four months later! And so far it has been a great one!

@narthur

Awesome.

Yeah, before this previous job I did the same "not really looking" for about 3 months, and got the last job after about 5 total.

I know the market is very different right now, so not assuming anything.

I'm fortunate to have always lived under my means, and saved some money so I have options many folks don't.

It was just eye opening to realize, deep down, that I could just ... Stop.

We place so much value on work for work's sake, it's hard to see sometimes.
