The Lib Dems have said they would forgive 20% of student debt for public sector workers; of course, one might quibble about the relatively low % but this is a move in the right directions but for two small issues:

Are we likely to see the LibDems in Govt.? Well perhaps in a coalition?

Can we trust then to deliver such a discount? Here we might look back to the last time they were in a coalition... oh hold on, didn't they betray those (now) graduates before?

@ChrisMayLA6 be better if they forgave 20% every year until all debt and interest removed. The 9% income tax surcharge might then be forgiveable. Personally, as someone who got a grant and paid no fees, perfectly happy with an increase of 1% on my income tax rates. Perhaps us older graduates could pay back what we gained.
I'd like a graduate tax, with free tuition and proper maintenance grants for all students. Those who have loans currently could opt for the tax or stay on the loan scheme.

@epistatacadam

Well, I'm ok with a partial fee (bet then again I paid for both my BA & MA myself, before getting my PhD funded)... but the current system is unsustainable for students & (actually) for Govt. too..... whether the LibDems are the agents of change is another matter

@ChrisMayLA6 it's a fair point, and my counterpoint is gonna be utterly let down by how it was played but... Still. Imagine if they'd got that AV vote reform through.
