Chipotle Axolotl (aka Julian)@galacticstone I work in retail for a non-profit company. Most of our shrinkage is industrial theft - people walking into stores and taking £200 worth of meat or booze. This directly impacts the pay of front line staff.
Second highest is affluent people slipping extra luxuries through the scanner because "self checkouts save them lots of money"
I totally sympathise with anyone who can't pay, and so do most shop staff.
Staff are generally advised not to confront professional thieves due to the threat of violence and the public should do the same.
