EDIT: Thanks everyone, Problem solved.

Any simple suggestions on replacing C1 in this circuit?

What value capacitor(?) it is? Or likely to be?

C1 selected as possible fault on basis of possible magic smoke residues.

Board is from an artificial Christmas tree with optic fibre tipps in the foliage.

The green LEDs will now only flash for <0.5 seconds very very infrequently.

I have a multimeter and a soldering iron.

@skua OMG what? what? no, OMG, that thing is not safe!!!
where is the fuse!? those pads are too close! eeeeeek! tell me I'm not seeing what I think I am! is that just a low voltage cap/pcb? pls tell me thats 12V and you just need a new generic 12V adapter...

@RueNahcMohr @skua And no transformer or anything that could provide galvanic insulation.

But it says Pri: 240V Sec: 12V 😨

@RueNahcMohr @skua Maybe the PCB has a 12V-AC in, and there‘s a real transformer outside of the pictures.
@bastelwombat @skua oh I hope so! Thats not built properly to be carrying 308VDC from mains!
