I have another thing you can do to help people in Minneapolis!

These kids are raising funds to go to Space Camp. It’s a beautiful structure: families pay what they can, then •all• the families fundraise the remaining total for •all• the kids together. Either everyone goes or no one goes.

The ICE invasion really knocked the fundraising on its heels this year: everyone diverted, one major fundraising event cancelled. It’s looking a little dire; maybe no one goes this year. They could use some help.

Please watch their charming video! Watch, and look at the faces: kids of many races and many genders, all different levels of knowledge, every one of them showing this deep-seated sense of agency and ownership about science and about their own learning: “I belong here. This is for me.” It’s everything the fascists fear.

Full disclosure: my kid is one of the kids in the program (but not in the video, sorry!). I can thus vouch for this fundraiser with extra confidence.

@inthehands No, but I had a telescope - a bit smaller than the one in the pic, but lunar craters, the crescent of Venus, the moons of Jupiter 💚 - and my father was an amateur astronomer too. And Jules Verne was my travel guide during the Apollo Project...
