@brooke that's odd, i haven't heard of this issue on lg drives before.

@brooke oh, huh, they have added built-in firmware upgrade support for LG drives nowadays, I hadn't realized that.

My LG drive is so old that I originally flashed it with the DOS tools that only work with a SATA controller that can be set to IDE mode :)

I wouldn't be surprised if the firmware dump is busted on 1.17.7 for LG drives on Linux too tho (i.e. even though the firmware dump runs without hanging, it won't actually generate a valid dump)

@brooke the reason this is such a big deal on Pioneer drives specifically is that a firmware dump is run *automatically* on certain Pioneer drives (ones where the tool doesn't recognize the firmware version), and the dump hanging on Linux stops you from being able to backup discs.
