@taylormccue Oh, "yes" as in, "all of the above". They're all great options and I can't pick one I like the best.

Also hi hi.

@avatastic ooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh

I figured but I wanted to check.

also hiii

next week hopefully I'll have the lil blob character running around

@taylormccue would it be too much to have all as an option and let the player pick the pallet?

Sorry, I just saw your toot from a boost and I don't know if you're doing something on a retro system with a limited pallet, or were after a vibe check on what just looks best.

@avatastic Oh well, here's the issue.

I'm trying my first ever modern engine game in a while.

I need to get some screenshots and eventually demo to participate in steam next fest.

So I gotta finalize some stuff.

From a technical standpoint since I'm doing hand drawn 2d stuff it would up the complexity to have the cutscenes reflect a changing palette at my skill level.

Stuff like this shot:

https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/958/942/120/426/721/original/d6d91d3e04566278.mp4

Already has assets made and animated and going back would be too much.

@avatastic At this point im mostly just doing a vibe check since I'm kinda wile e coyote building out my demo and steam screenshots at the same time to make a headline.

Normally I'd take a slower more organic approach but I don't want to pull a bait and switch where players a year from now get the game and everyone looks radically different.

@taylormccue with all this new information I have an answer and have voted accordingly.

which has tied the vote (at moment of tooting)

@avatastic Thank you. I'm super curious since I can't tell individual votes, which did you end up going for?
@taylormccue I'm sure you're expecting "Darkness" from my avi, but you will hopefully be pleasantly surprised that it was actually "Raver Girl".

@avatastic No, that actually makes sense.

Game characters need to move through a lot of potentially different environments.

Darkness has low visibility which makes less sense for a game.

@avatastic I personally just think darkness looks best in isolation but also isn't as realistic.

The pink hair is gonna have to do a lot of the heavy lifting with that color set.

@taylormccue idk if Raver Girl (i know we're talking pallets not personality) would coordinate their hair and skirt?

I think I'm over thinking it, it that "wait, it's almost 3am?!" way I tend to do.

@avatastic Yeah, it clashes with the hair but pink hair is already set in for a lot of assets.

I can't really walk back that choice.

Also I am having fun talking with you but you should seriously sleep. :<

@taylormccue Oh I was thinking compliments rather than clashes, but given the polling options, maybe not for the 90s vibe i think you're going for?

I'm also enjoying these interactions, and maybe we'll have more in the future.

sleep may be in my immediate future, but i doubt it'll be serious. i do whimsy not serious.

well, i try to.

ttfn.

@avatastic Goodnight also aaaaa good luck on the sleeping.

The vibe isn't 90s, to be honest the game is kind of a mess.

It's about a trans woman trying to get rid of parts of herself she hates by fighting her false self in the pretty girl subspace.

If you die the game keeps going as the survivor.

@taylormccue a fight through dysmorphia until you realise you were actually beautiful all along?
not something i can relate to, because I'm not an egg, not an egg, nope, just an enby who wants to feel and look pretty, but i feel the journey / fight is something deeply personal to you.

*puts my hair in pigtails and shakes my pom-poms*

I'm rooting for you Tay!

@avatastic Oh umm she doesn't figure out she was pretty all along.

She just burns the parts of herself that she hates.

Or more accurately the player either discovers what happens when you continually tear yourself down or more interestingly with failure gets to see how the "worst" parts of themselves would approach life.

She doesn't get better because ultimately there's no happy ending to life, just finding the courage to exist even if life sucks a lot.

As a metaphor it's more like blues.

@avatastic That being said, knowing someone is rooting for me, that means a lot. Especially for a game that's flawed.

You don't have to be an egg or not an egg, you just have to be you and life is finding out the answer to who you are or will become.

But aaaaa what you should be is sleeping soooo goodnight and thank you!!

@taylormccue i hope that your game comes to completion and i can see .... hmmmm, from my pantheon of youtubers ... it's probably a Gab Smoudlers and jacksepticeye who'd probably play this and have an honest to heart reaction.
