New parent classes go on about breastfeeding and growth. All important stuff. But there's one huge parenting thing that they all leave out:

Throwing stuff away.

Children generate and accumulate so much crap. So, so much.

And as parents we're wracked with such guilt throwing any of it away - whether it's a finger drawing from nursery or a crappy Happy Meal toy.

Teach us to throw stuff away and you'll change our lives.

@davidnjoku A little morbid but after clearing out Dad’s house I take a view that I don’t want my youngling to have to pick through hordes of crap when I have shuffled off this mortal coil. Really helped me declutter and assess what stuff I was holding onto I *really* actually want and need.

Which is all good and fine until said youngling does a thing and gives it to me and it goes right in the “treasure forever” area 😅😅

@wiredfire @davidnjoku This is the essence of Swedish death cleaning: the time you give back to future others by doing your own sorting out now. It’s weirdly refreshing. After the last youngling took off we cracked on with it and it’s the theme of this year. You’re so right, parenting is a whole extra sediment layer of sentimental hoarding.
@kate @wiredfire @davidnjoku I have to deal with a wife who has horror vacui but if I put it that way, I might have a chance 😂
