@derthomas impressive that you’re on the AOTY trail already. I’ve barely listened to any new releases; I’ve been somewhat intentionally mostly listing to the back catalogue of artists who recently put out albums I loved.

I think the only clear AOTY contender for me so far is Converge.

@derthomas 'Outstanding Power' by LOVEBITES released this week has a good chance of keeping the top spot all year long.

Other than that, Converge and Kreator are up there.

(By that I mean, there's just tons of different guitars sections. Thrashy stuff. Power ballads. Bass solos. I really enjoyed it.)

@derthomas if we're talkin just metal, these are mine so far. Got an early listen to the Cryptworm that comes out in March and that's gonna be tough to beat. But Ossification is my top of stuff that's released. I've listened to many of these a lot already this year πŸ˜‚

@derthomas hahaa! Some are more brutal, gross and insane than others. The ones I'd recommend most are Ossification, Body Melt, Flittering, Vertebrae Fetish Totem, and Desensitized, MAYBE Dead Filth or Melting Rot.
