Canada is looking to buy new tanks, apparently from south Korea. I approve. NO MORE YANKEE TECH EVER

But anyways, Carney plz buy k3

K3 is so cool, we need k3

@jamie Those South Korean Tanks and guns have a significant portion of US Tech and components. They have been designed and built with American help. What Canada is doing is still buying US stuff through a circuitous route. Just like the proposed Swedish #Gripen which is based on a US engine, GE F414 and has significant US ECW components in it.

If Canada were to get serious, which it is not, it would buy German tanks or build one of its own in collaboration with UK or others.

@welkin7 Well, you aren’t wrong but Germany isn’t the right country to buy tanks from now. Were using German tanks now, but Germany needs it’s own tanks, the difference between putting Canadians or Germans in the tanks isn’t useful. Those tanks really should stay in Europe right now.

The real problem with the F35 is the tech that can’t be licensed and built locally, and it integrates and is meant to work within the Americans intelligence framework and their software. If the engines are made in Sweden or Canada that’s not a problem that GE designed the engine. F35 components are not available like this. F35 has a lot of secrets built in. I’m not an expert on the Gripen so if you are saying it’s compromised I’ll take your word for it. Something completely clean would be ideal. But is that for sale? France maybe, but I’m not sure they have the production capacity.

I don’t trust the UK much more than I do the USA, we shouldn’t use their tech either.

@jamie
Considering the long association of #UK and #Canada why is there a hesitancy in using UK tech?

Prior to 1945 Canada's sovereignty was guaranteed by London and the heft that it carried. Let us not forget that in 1812 and many more instances it was British blood and Canadian blood that was shed to keep Canada independent.

@welkin7 What is this? Bringing up 1812 and guarantees of independence the UK is incapable and absolutely unwilling to enforce? Huh? What is this, what are you trying to do here? There is something gross and dishonest here that makes me think we’re not having an interesting discussion but actually you are trying to have some kind of weird debate.

The UK is part of the core that makes up the neoliberal world order, they’re nearly identical to the USA in terms of global policy. If you hate USA global politics but give a pass to the UK then you aren’t sincere.
