First day wearing this new shirt that arrived yesterday.

Saw it scrolling by on mastodon a few days ago and had to get one for myself. Can't find the toot anymore, but here's the shop link: https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/70096211-stop-forcing-ai-into-fucking-everything-original

*edit* it was this toot! https://wandering.shop/@maco/116075925593898835

@foosel Unfortunately, it's too late. AI is like a cancer that has already spread its metastases everywhere.

@hiker so what, I should just roll up in the corner and cry?

I'm going to continue to fight this crap tooth and nail, until this fucking hype bubble finally bursts.

@foosel People are enthusiastic about it in so many places—that's going to be difficult. But good luck!

@hiker I'm a full time open source maintainer, trust me, I noticed ;)

Not a reason to roll up in a corner and cry though. It sure as hell is draining AF, I'll give you that, and I need my breaks too, but once I stop fighting they have won.

@foosel @hiker I'll be fighting with you. :) Thanks for sharing the shirt link! Just ordered one.

@hiker @foosel AI isn't really a single thing, it's a term that gets used as a handy bucket for a while bunch of things.

Some of it is actually worthwhile and likely to benefit humankind for a long time. For some of it, I think the case is as yet unproven. And some of it has really been driven by hype in various ways and is likely to disappear when the funding is no longer coming from investors betting the farm on stuff they don't understand, and no-one else wants to pay the real cost.

Significant changes often happen like this. How the world looks when it all settles down is likely to depend on the high-water mark reached before that, and that high-water mark will depend on how effectively people push back now.
