an update on the grs shitstorm/ just some of my thoughts:

the quebec elections are right around the corner, which makes it an excellent time for GRS to drop a bombshell like this. There is a very strong case for a suit against the MSSS for discrimination.

essentially gender surgeries in quebec, unlike in any other province or territory, are given a set amount of funding. once it's out, no more gender surgeries for quebec residents for the rest of the fiscal year, in contrast with literally any other surgery which is obviously funded as needed. this is also why post op care is so awful, because they're incentivised to spend as little as possible on it and theres no extra $$ for revisions if you're quebecois. so yeah, you can see how this is a pretty good basis for legal action.

in the short time, it's going to be really, really messed up for trans patients. wait times will probably snowball over a few years and become like unliveably long. but in the long term the landscape of gender surgeries in quebec is going to totally change. it's all very exciting and depressing at the same time and very strange to be trying to get grs' most complex and demanding surgery while all this is happening

#GRSgate

@Fraseytrain from what i've heard these wait times are also combined with one of the GRS surgeons leaving and starting a private practice. all in all i think this will lead to a lot more people needing to go private because they literally can not wait upwards of 3-4 yrs for life saving surgeries. i am fondly remembering the feeling of getting surgery within a year (two at most) of starting the process which seemed to be the case for most ppl i've known in the past couple years.

@blushpuke yup. Laungani is leaving in the spring , and there’s whispers of Brassard maybe retiring soon- he already sold GRS and has been talking about retiring for years.
There’s a urologist starting on the phallo team for september, and they have a new surgeon for phallo as well, but for vaginoplasties i’m not really sure what’s going to happen. Laungani currently charges 22k for a vaginoplasty in his private practice, same costs as going to thailand for it.

So potentially ( just speculating) there may be nobody covered by the MSSS doing vaginoplasties for a bit. I doubt it’ll come to that but yea

@Fraseytrain @blushpuke is this why he's running instagram ads now?
@blushpuke for mastectomies surgeon supply is not an issue , its 100% just a funding issue
@Fraseytrain I was encouraged by doctors to sue them for the lack of care I received post-surgery... idk if there is any way to make that a case about the lack of funding rather than targeted at the grs specifically
@uhhuhthem sooo i have access to a bunch of documents and technically post op care is grs’ responsibility BUT because of how the province bills them i’m not surprised that they don’t do fuck all for post top surgery. Like i said, the funding system incentivises spending as little as possible on post op care / revisions. Since the msss has an entente with grs ( which renews in 2028 btw 👀) in theory it would be more useful to sue the msss
