I saw RUN LOLA RUN in the theater back in '99, and it was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had in a movie theater that did not involve making out with somebody

On the flip side I also had great fun seeing SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW (2004) in the theater, but that one was entirely because of the making out that happened concurrently. I couldn’t even tell you what the plot of that movie was

Make-out session so good you're still thinking about it 20 years later. Thanks, SKY CAPTAIN 🫡

I loved Roger Ebert's work so much. But there were moments where I knew I would never truly understand him

@jalefkowit I fell asleep the first time I tried to watch Sky Captain on dvd, and then the second time I tried to watch it I also fell asleep.
@chillicampari Scroll up-thread for my Sky Captain story. At least I can say I did not nod off 😆
@jalefkowit whew! I'm glad that it was not a fully wasted effort on the filmmakers part and that some good came out of it. :D
@jalefkowit The movie didn't matter, what mattered was that we need more dieselpunk shit in our lives right now.
@tikibunnyimports I remember being extremely impressed by the visual aesthetic and basically nothing else 😆

@jalefkowit worth seeing again. there's not much plot, but it's worth seeing.

(an old episode of the 1950's Superman cartoon, a bit of Flash Gordon. But well done.)

@fishidwardrobe @jalefkowit
It's kinda goofy and simple-minded, but it appeals to my goofy, simple-minded side, and I've enjoyed it each time I watched it.

No work of fiction appeals to everyone, so differing opinions on this movie are fine with me.

@jalefkowit I paid attention to "Sky Captain," but the only memory of it I can dredge up is the CGI-ified resurrected footage of Laurence Olivier looking a bit crappy. I think you have the better takeaway from that experience.
@jalefkowit I still have a rip of the soundtrack CD in my ogg folder from 2002, and I think I could find the CD in short order.

@jalefkowit In honor of that film, the next time I saw a roulette machine, I bet on 20.

Lost my money immediately.

@jalefkowit I saw Run Lola Run in Seattle (or Austin?) at a film festival and Franka Potente was there in the audience for some reason.

@jalefkowit

There's also a Bollywood remake, Looop Lapeta. I was ten minutes into it before I realized...

@jalefkowit I reviewed that film a short while ago
