@kottke
Woulda been nice to have this sentence at the very top of that very long river of a page instead of at the **very bottom**:
> Current is available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
What a waste of my time.
@Renebrouwer @kottke I certainly did!
I don't always read ever inch of a thumbnail (especially on my phone). I read CURRENT then read the actual text description then went to the page. Which has no mention of platforms at the top.
But thanks for pointing that out. I didn't see that. ✌️
@kottke I don't want to be a buzzkill, I feel like Terry Godier put some thought into this. I agree RSS reader ought to adapt to user's actual usage of their sources to try and highlight stuff they really want. And to whatever degree his features are novel, doing anything different is worth trying.
But I think his premise that unread count causes anxiety is absurd, and between this product page and his initial essay I feel like I've been slapped in the face with a TEDx talk.
@kottke The "counting" is never a problem. The unread counts serve as a visual indicator that never holds anyone hostage. No one is obligated to read everything, anyone using any RSS reader has a choice to ignore anything.
Using personal misguided feelings, and trying to monetize them by making others pay for an application that innovates or improves on nothing other than visual aesthetics is nothing more than gimmick. Save your money people, for things we underappreciate.
