Thinking about the polycrisis, and collapse, and how life could be so much better than the neo-feudal, adversarial, enshittifying, forced-competitive, forced-individualized, nature-destroying circumstances we are in.

One very small positive change I would love to have (and support) is access to a communal pool of things one only occasionally needs: tools, suitcases, dog “cones”… so many things could be shared, to cut down on expense, materials, waste. A not-just-a-tool library.

Of course, this being our world, we’d have to plan from the outset how to deal with people who try to exploit the system. Theiving, sabotage, suing… Would need good legal input, plus some kind of deposit/surety mechanism, plus insurance, plus good inventory systems, plus things I’ve not thought of. Maker-spaces and tool libraries are probably good models to start with. Maybe this is something local libraries could expand into, given a framework? Does such a thing already exist?
