New article on too many satellites and ways that we SHOULD be allocating orbits (by Gregory Radisic with me as second author) https://theconversation.com/too-many-satellites-earths-orbit-is-on-track-for-a-catastrophe-but-we-can-stop-it-275430

Been up for about 30 minutes and I already got a media inquiry. Nice.

Too many satellites? Earth’s orbit is on track for a catastrophe – but we can stop it

Cultural, spiritual, and most environmental impacts aren’t taken into account when launching thousands of satellites.

@sundogplanets just remember, down there everything is orbiting upside down 😁

@sundogplanets Look what you're missing

"Prairies bracing for up to 40cm of snowfall"

😆

@sundogplanets sorry to hear it, we're an awful country
Órbita da Terra pode virar palco de uma catástrofe com o lançamento de milhões de satélites

Os impactos culturais, espirituais e, principalmente, ambientais não são levados em consideração nos projetos de lançamento de milhares de satélites.

@sundogplanets

congrats on the media inquiry....

@sundogplanets

Excellent article.

@sundogplanets Woah, they've got Scott Manley referenced!
@sundogplanets I'm going to look at the positives. Kellser Syndrome suggests this is a problem that will solve itself, sadly if anyones in the ISS or Tiangong.
@sundogplanets Just like we license and allocate radio frequencies for media broadcasting, mobile phone communications and data transmission. The corporations have adopted a Terre Nullius principle to outer space - but in fact we all own it together and any action within it has consequences for us all.
