What sort of weather is this? Graupel sniveling from the sky! Hell, no, Monty won't go!

@carolannie Monty isn’t budging. I know not to even go there with Ernie if it’s raining.
@Broadfork
It's only a problem with Monty when he gets bored and wants me to romp with him in our small quarters 🤔 ☺️

@carolannie They do like having the best of both worlds.

Ernie always looks miserable right before every first walk of the day. But open the door and he changes instantly.

@Broadfork
They are so temperamental!

@carolannie There’s this dog Ernie likes playing with. Some days he plays with Ernie, some days he really doesn’t.

This dog saw Ernie coming towards him the other day and tried to hide behind a lamp post.
It was hilarious.

@Broadfork
Dogs are so interesting! Sometimes i compare a dog park to a cantina in Star Wars, you never know what that critter is going to do
@carolannie I captured his pre-walk excitement. A dog resigned to his fate.
@Broadfork
That was a genuine ROTFL! But Monty has refined this: we get all geared up, go out, and walk to the end of the driveway and he stops. That's it. I try to coax him and he won't budge. To be fair, the driveway has tall redcedars keeping it pretty dry. But still!

@carolannie Ernie has cut short three walks recently. It’s never happened before and we hadn’t gone far. It wasn’t raining but it was wet underfoot and these were dull, miserable days.

He just stopped and refused to move. I tried to coax him but he was having none of it. As soon as I turned to go back he’s lolloping happily ahead and heading for home.

He’s an enthusiastic walker usually. Just not on those days. He wasn’t ill or injured, just didn’t fancy it. Can’t blame him really.

@Broadfork
Once they hit that stage you know they own you.
@carolannie He gets enough of his own way to think so. It’s just a phase but boxers can be stubborn. He’s been no bother on his second walks.
@Broadfork
Monty thinks all of purcwalks are his to direct. He sulks a bit when we don't go his preferred way. Dogs do get bored if taken on the same route all the time, but he is picky.

@carolannie Yes, they need the stimulation of new sights and smells but they like their routines and have their favourite places too.

Within reason I let Ernie go ahead and choose which path to take. There’s enough variety around here we can do different loops to keep him interested and we meet different dogs and people every day.

It’s always good (like today) when he meets up with one of his playmates.

He’ll also walk with two bonded pairs twice or sometimes three times a week.

@Broadfork
Wow, what a variety of experiences! So good for him !
@carolannie We’re limited more this time of year by the weather. It’s too waterlogged or muddy to take some routes but he does pretty well when it’s not raining.
@Broadfork
Same here. Seasonal bogs!
@Broadfork
Also that expression is priceless!

@carolannie Isn’t it? 🙃 He is like this before his first walk every day. But as soon as the door’s open his tail’s up and we’re off.

Half an hour after this photo he met his Bernese mountain dog friend and they would still be playing now if it was up to them.

@Broadfork
Of courde. Play is important dog brain activity
@carolannie Yes and playing with their doggy friends is even better.
