"In 1999, I interviewed Prince for TIME and he told me to leave my tape recorder off because he didn’t trust what future technology might do with unauthorized recordings of his voice.

At the time, I thought Prince was being paranoid ... I realize now that Prince wasn’t paranoid, he was prescient."

It's Time to Rage Against the AI Music Machine

If AI music takes over "humans will begin to echo the machines, and there will be a downward spiral into slop."

TIME
In his 1998 interview with Guitar World, Prince spoke directly about one of the reasons why he was seeking ownership of his work: to have artistic control so there couldn't be unauthorized digital manipulation of his work after his death. https://sites.google.com/site/prninterviews/home/guitar-world-october-1998
@anildash @kdriscoll that was the same reason Gandhi endorsed copyright for his autobiography …bad translations were coming in the market. He had previously waived copyright on Hind Swaraj, stamping it “No Rights Reserved.”
@carlmalamud @anildash @kdriscoll Fascinating! I can't help but see copyright as a balance between the interests of producers/owners and society, and technology that reduces friction for use of information is OF COURSE going to change that balance because that's what technology does. The question is what the 'right' new balance is. Referring to precedent isn't as helpful here!
