@cadey imo there just isn't enough dev time on the matrix protocol and clients. I really don't want to go through the trolling period that happened last year again

For normies, federation model is hard to grasp. People expect services provided by the Internet. The old World Wide Web was one such service, it features a simple way to access information by savable address, and don't even need user to understand its decentralized nature.
Decentralization done right is more intuitive than federation.
