If safety's on your mind for DrupalCon Chicago, you should stay away.

If it's not on your mind, what's wrong with you?

@jpoesen how so?
@pcambra How so what exactly?

@pcambra Does it need explaining that *nobody* is safe traveling in or into the US?

If the organizers really cared about their community they would cancel or at the very very least dissuade people from traveling and attending.

@pcambra Remember how in 2010 the EyjafjallajΓΆkull eruption disrupted DrupalCon, and folks all over the world set up in-person and virtual satellite events?

This grump remembers.

@froboy @pcambra

I'm quite relieved to hear that someone over there actually dares speak about "the troubles", even if it's a single sentence.

On the other hand, much too little, much too late, and for all intents and purposes a close to insignificant statement.

Shameful.

@jpoesen @froboy there are volunteers behind the organization of these events, even if I'm not supportive of many things happening around the DA, like pricing and accessibility of events and I think stuff can be organised differently (i.e. the licensed model), I see this communicate as a volunteer effort and I appreciate it a lot, I think is not "too little" to have someone speaking up on such a sensible topic, and having the CWG involved is a good thing.
@jpoesen @froboy I do agree that the DrupalCon NA should maybe reconsidered as a model outside the US given the politic climate though.
@pcambra @jpoesen 100%. I think this project is going to be essential for the project making it another 10 or 20 years. https://www.drupal.org/project/ifwg. We need better financial transparency for the Association and we need to decouple the project's technical health from events, especially those held in any one specific country.

@pcambra @froboy Agreed. Due to my frustration with the DA I probably don't communicate this very well but I have heaps of appreciation for the people on the ground organizing this under horrible conditions. I'd just rather the flagship event were organised somewhere else than the US.
