Just noticed (only now!) that there's a big initiative against Google's move to control who may or may not provide Android apps in the future, independent of whether they are distributed through the Play store or any other way -- which is obviously a major kick in the groin for any free, libre or open apps trying to run on Android, which itself is supposed to be mostly FLOSS. Which Google is happy to claim sympathy for, but only if it makes them money and they retain the right to control/surveil tightly what anyone does with any Android phone:
