Alright well this is very much a WIP but it's already more info than I've found on this subject anywhere else on the web: the fandom discord to IRC migration page is live!

Fandom on IRC

lmao came home today to see this is taking off, for obvious reasons-- since I wrote this, there HAS been more info than this written and posted, namely this guide by @adam posted yesterday: https://www.neatnik.net/setting-up-an-irc-server/

I'm going to update this with that link, instructions for installing thelounge and tips on my discord-user-friendly setup in it, but you should follow those instructions for setting up ergo as they are easier and include right from the beginning with VPS setup!

Setting up an IRC server / a Neatnik Guide

Take back your privacy and independence by running an IRC server. It’s easier than you think!

@bloodripelives @adam would be nice to have some alternatives to hetzner though (even if a lot of people on fedi didn't have problems with them everyone buying from a single source is how discord got so bad too)
@bloodripelives This was super helpful, thanks! I got the client and server running behind duckdns and apache in about 45 minutes, which included a few dead ends because of EOL arm32 raspberry pi stuff.
