I actually like the usage here, but, as a person who has always treasured time spent in thought, or reverie, or speculation, or "idle" tinkering, I pretty much reject the notion of "waste" when applied to that which gives pleasure or satisfaction. Now, back in the days of staff meetings, department meetings or any of the other bureaucratic trappings of what was often rewarding work, it was not hard to label those activities that constituted a terrible waste (though I often found ways to escape into my own thoughts, thereby recouping a part of the tragic loss),
