The radical woke subliminal message in Bad Bunny's halftime performance

https://lemmy.world/post/42889245

The message is lost on those who love to hate.

“Do you ever notice who it is… stop to think who it is we kill? It’s always people who’ve told us to live together in harmony and try to love one another…”

- George Carlin
I tried googling his “Ocasio 64” jersey, and all I came up with was articles about the time AOC streamed a Donkey Kong 64 marathon.

a Donkey Kong 64 marathon.

go on…

Well, you see…

DK, Donkey Kong. He’s the leader of the bunch, you know him well. He’s finally back to kick some tail. His coconut gun can fire in spurts. If he shoots ya, it’s gonna hurt! He’s bigger, faster, and stronger, too. He’s the first member of the DK crew.

Meanwhile, Lanky Kong

Aoc didn’t do the DK64 stream, someone else did she just showed up at one point

Ocasio is Bad Bunny’s last name. 64 might be the year of his dad’s birth, but that’s a guess.
I heard it was in reference to the Puerto Rican governments initial death toll caused by Hurricane Maria (en.wikipedia.org/…/Hurricane_Maria_death_toll_con…), which was…a very low number.

Is it trying to get people from the Caribbean to play any version of football? Because I think they prefer bat and ball sports[1], and to be honest, I’m surprised Bad Bunny actually cares. I guess he’s in it for the prestige and fame? Did he already do something for the world series?

[1] : For some reason, Hispanic Caribbean countries like Baseball, while Anglophone Caribbean countries love cricket. I don’t know or understand why they prefer bat and ball sports this consistently. Like you’d think it would be a mixture, and some football or they’d all like baseball or cricket, but it’s divided among linguistic lines.

What? It had nothing to do with sports. Like yeah, its a Superbowl thing but the halftime show has long past been more of a cultural thing than a sports thing. People that perform at it likely don’t give a shit about the sport either way, and neither do many of the people that watch specifically (or only) the Super bowl.

The message was clear and it was aimed at every single person watching American or not, sports fan or not.

It is a badly executed joke about which sport is popular for which cultural group and the abundance of Caribbean flags in the photo

Imagine having the final of your favourite sport turn into an entertainment/cultural show …

Other than that, perfect platform to spread this message so yea

American football is a cultural event.
Agree that sport and culture have a lot in common, but at this point the sports-part feels like it’s merely a side event to the half time show
That’s because the halftime show was more entertaining.
who played who? I don’t even know hahaha
I don’t normally watch football, but it was a pretty good game. Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots. The Patriots make it to the superbowl often and have had a reputation for playing dirty at times. The Seahawks barely lost to them a few years ago, so this was a very nice comeback, also it’s only their second time winning the superbowl. They put up a fantastic defense and for a while people thought the Patriots wouldnt get to score any points at all.
For many of us, that’s true. And that’s something present even at the college and high school football levels. Last night, I tuned in just for the halftime show and turned the game off after. Similarly, people at my college were known for leaving football games after watching the band’s performance at halftime. While football is a huge deal to many, there’s also a significant amount of people that only show up for the musicians.

Its both a huge event and platform so it makes sense why artists would want to perform at the superbowl.

As for why he was picked, I think I’ve read some reports that the NFL is really trying to grow the sport in South America. Between the fact that they’ve saturated the US market and that every attempt to expand in Europe has been rough, I think they realize they don’t have many other choices.

US soft power is going to have a very hard time spreading any further than it has in the future.

Just want to say that halftime show was 🔥🔥🔥. I don’t listen to bad bunny normally, but I am now.
I dont either, and only heard some of his stuff before. I also am never a huge fan of most of the half time shows, but this one seemed to work well and was unique. I especially liked the end where he celebrates all countries, the dig without being a dig.

Fuck yes, same.

That was some of the worst sound I’ve ever heard in a musical number, basically anywhere.
Most sports arenas have shit acoustics, so it makes sense that the sound quality is bad
You are objectively correct, all the downvoters just feel like anything other than praise is an attack on their identity.

I remember Kendrick Lamar’s sound was pretty bad. But that was the audio coming through the tv. When they released the video on YouTube, it sounded much better.

I honestly didn’t think this had bad sound, though.

You must not have seen The Weeknd’s halftime show a couple years ago

Clearly we’re in the minority, but I did not think it sounded good at all. It’s a hard event (even acoustically), and he clearly was singing live, but it felt like he was struggling to keep up with the beat. Although I’m also very hit or miss with rap, so I’m also probably biased.

The message and showmanship was good and regardless of how it sounded, I think people will talk about this performance for a long time.

I heard him for the first time yesterday, just to know what I was in for. Dude is incredibly popular on YouTube! First video had a billion views!

And the spectacle of it all! Outside of last year, this was one of the most entertaining halftime shows I can remember.

I listened to him after the Grammys. Found I loved many of his songs.

Prince’s halftime show will always be the greatest ever. But this was close.

How do I not remember the cis-het lbgtqia+'s icon’s show? Brb, going to look it up!
I’ll wait.

You do know I left another comment that started with “I’m back” right?

Or are you terminally fucking dumb?

Wow
Yup. Getting your dumb shit thrown in your face must be shocking.

No, just witnessing somebody being a massive asshole for literally no reason is shocking. What the fuck is the point of that?

Can you imagine somebody might reply to a comment before reading the next one? That such a foreign concept to you? I even commented on the other one already, which you might have seen if you read all your comments before replying.

I’d tell you to get off the internet, but I’m willing to bet people in real life don’t want to deal with you either.

My point is that you, and the fucker I originally responded to, are responsible for trump.

You pieces of shit are literally nazis.

Maybe you’re lost, cause you’re responding to the wrong comments.

No, you said “I’ll wait”. I may be mixing up people i start fights with(which in all honesty, I do way too much) and you didn’t read my second comment.

Also, I’m sorry I mixed you up with the .ml people I’m arguing with.

You’re right, and I’m sorry.

I accept your apology.
Thanks homie. That actually means a lot to me right now.
Dude, I think you need a break from the internet.
It’s way too far after the Super Bowl for you to still be drunk. You have a problem that needs addressing.
I’m back. Lived the marching band segment. But I didn’t know how I feel about homie’s hypocrisy singing about getting “blitzed” and having all his parties completely sober, despite being an opiate addict himself.

I guess I’m done waiting…

Yeah, Prince kinda sucked as a person at that point I think. But the show was everything I wanted from a prince set.

Purple Rain…in the rain, yeah

Kendrick last year is a solid #2 though, that was a more savage beating than anyone in shoulder pads took and damn that dude got flow

True. I rewatched Kendrick’s a few times.
Why can’t they have a real American artist performing at the Superbowl like Immortal Technique?
Or Justin Bieber. Real Americans.
I didn’t watch the halftime show. I don’t listen to him and likely will not in the future, but I do enjoy the fact that his existence forced the MAGA boomers I work with to suffer a kid rock performance. Thanks Bad Bunny.
Not sure what kind of music you’re into, but I didn’t think I would like Bad Bunny either. After he won the Grammy, I decided to give it a listen and was shocked at how much of his music I liked.
I just tried a few of his songs on youtube and confirmed it’s definitely not my thing. Other people can like what they like though.
I mean . If true Americans are failing
