I got a little visitor at my door.
#PhotosFromEarth

I may have booped it.

They have very poor eyesight and I had to encourage it to walk AWAY from the very excited #BronsonDog in the background. The echidna disappeared safely into #CillasGarden

I caught a short video and uploaded it to my YouTube.

@dgar omg it is so cute i'm gonna die
@dgar are those spikes on their back like porcupine spikes? Defense mechanism? Or more like hedgehog spikes?
@piofthings I don't know what porcupine spikes or hedgehog spikes are like, but Echidna quills are rigid and very sharp. When threatened, Echidnas will dig into the ground leaving only their quills exposed, or they'll ball up like an armadillo for defence.
@dgar thanks… that’s more like porcupine spikes as I visualised it in my head 😁

@dgar that said Hedgehogs also tend to ball up in defense… but totally different creatures as per this https://a-z-animals.com/animals/comparison/echidna-vs-hedgehog-difference/

@dgar I would definitely be tempted to boop it. 😍

@dgar

You did well! 😁 They often get themselves stuck in a corner & it’s pretty hard to move them out of that. Thought I saw its spines flare out defensively when it heard Bronson bark too. Could have been a disaster - you saved the day! 😁
