Making your own croutons is cheap and easy and a good use for stale bread.

Put some butter or margarine in a microwave safe bowl (IDK maybe a tablespoon for a medium sized bread roll?)

Cut stale bread into rough cubes

Heat butter in microwave on 10 sec intervals until melted

Shake some garlic powder into the butter

Toss the bread cubes in the garlic-butter

sprinkle salt and pepper over it all (easy on the salt if your butter is salted) *

Put baking paper on a metal tray. Put bread cubes onto the tray - single layer and not touching each other so those suckers can get crunchy

Bake at 200 C until you have got golden brown croutons.*

For best results, turn halfway through

* How long depends a lot on the bread. These ones pictured I made with a stale croissant. Only took 7 minutes and they got a little browner than intended.

* you can add some herbs at this point too if you wanna get fancy about it
