There's something nice about the feeling of a fresh command.com prompt waiting for you

@nina_kali_nina Totally a personal issue but it makes me sick looking at it... I sold my lovely Commodore Amiga 500 back then just to "keep up with the Joneses"... because everyone else is doing it.

But after Amiga's graphical user interface and music & graphics capabilities that WAY ahead of it's time; the utter darkness of PC & MS-DOS was a depression triggering gloom.

@nina_kali_nina This is a super cosy scene 🙂

@nina_kali_nina

My Tiny 386 20MHz, 1MB RAM, HD 170MB, MS-DOS 6.22

From 1991, still running great.

@pinkmoon
How well does it understand dates after 31st December 1999?
@nina_kali_nina is it weird that I'm more nostalgic for the Ultra?
@stripey yes :p (but it's also great)
@nina_kali_nina my first job where I actually had the title "System Administrator" I had an Ultra 10 on my desk.
@nina_kali_nina It if wasn't for the keyboard, I would have thought this was an old picture. Nice setup!
@nina_kali_nina nice! What screen is that? Looks pretty flat for a crt (non Sony)

@duhanebel it's very non flat!

Speaking of flat CRTs, there were many Samsung that had a flat screen, but this ain't it, it's a very cheap random model

@nina_kali_nina oh! Then it must be the picture. I’m after a Sony trinitron from when I was 15yo but it’s so rare on eBay that I’m considering looking for other models
@duhanebel good CRTs are so expensive T_T and tbh having a shitty CRT makes the graphics in the old games a bit more pleasant to me
@nina_kali_nina what... Did you do to $PROMPT ... 😱
@hp @nina_kali_nina it is a shtick akko does on all our dos (including msx-dos) machines to display time in the prompt because of (gestures broadly at the clock) hyperfocus reasons
@yottatsa @hp this comment was left at 3:35 am 🤣
@nina_kali_nina @yottatsa well, now at least we know WHY $PROMPT looks like that... 🤣
@hp @nina_kali_nina in my defence, macintosh has no clock on-screen 🤣
