My mentions continue to be a dumpster fire of people who really don't have a fucking clue about road safety, or public health.

Multiple people have heard me saying "do not make bike helmets mandatory" and interpreted it as "we should ban the wearing of cycle helmets". That's not what I said.

The number of people making the false equivalences with seat belts and motorcycle helmets demonstrates a frankly painful level of ignorance.

Frankly fediverse, I expected better.

@quixoticgeek as far as this driver is concerned I don't care what the cyclist is wearing. The biggest danger to my car's beautiful paintwork is the bike itself. Therefore I try to avoid running into cyclists, even the ones who are utter cunts and deserve to be squashed.

Does that help? 😉

@quixoticgeek @DrHyde if this is a joke it really isn't funny. I and every regular cyclist I know have experienced deliberate aggression from drivers, which I cope with by assuming they don't know or didn't think about the harm they'd have caused if they'd been successful rather than believing that they deliberately want to harm or kill me because they find cyclists annoying. This sort of joke normalises attitudes like that. Cyclists have just as much right to be on the road as drivers and no one deserves to be killed just because they don't have a car.
@afewbugs @DrHyde actually, in the UK, cyclists have more right to be on the roads than motorists. Motorists are granted access under license, cyclists are granted access by right, same as pedestrians.
