There’s been a lot of opsec discussion around ICE, so I figured I’d share this one line Apple Shortcut that reboots your device.

Rebooting or just activating the “emergency call” feature by holding buttons on each side, will both disable biometrics until the password is entered.

EDIT: I removed some suggestions about automation because they require confirmation even if you set them to “run immediately”

Literally one line, feel free to make your own instead.

Add it to your Home Screen, stick it in a widget, but try it before you need it to work.

Oh and may not even need it. Try this:

“Hey Siri, reboot phone.”

Siri asks for confirmation.

“Restart.”

Shit, I feel like an ass for posting when the automation wasn’t working right. It still asks for a confirmation.

Does anyone feel like it’s not presented right? Cause it’s getting a lot of boosts and you still need to confirm with a button or voice command.

I really don’t want anyone to assume something and get exposed because I can’t speak like a normal person.

Forking the thread, but here’s an older article about using the emergency call to disable biometrics. https://osxdaily.com/2022/09/01/hard-lock-iphone-prevent-biometric-access/
How to Hard Lock an iPhone to Prevent Unauthorized Biometric Access

@Laukidh modern iPhones reboot if not unlocked for 3 days
@partridge pretty sure mine would run out the battery by then.
@Laukidh you will never believe how the authorities will prevent your phone from doing this if your phone is taken
@Laukidh for when you can plan in advance, iOS settings allow disabling biometric device unlock while still allowing biometric id for other actions like app logins
@Laukidh having dealt with authorities before I can't say I see much value? Policing bodies all around the world don't bother unlocking phones forcefully with biometrics, instead handing you the phone and ordering to "unlock or face the consequences", at which point it does not matter what type of unlock mechanism you have

@ipsavitsky a journalist was recently force to unlock her laptop with biometrics. Our law doesn’t allow them to force people to enter a passcode.
