MPPT solar charger, 118F. Within spec. #solar #flir

@ai6yr

That's pretty warm...

Is that normal?
🤔

@JohnJBurnsIII Spec says runs to 60C and it's temperature protected

@ai6yr

WOW - 60 C is in the "Don't touch range"...

I'd hate to lean up against that in a cramped compartment or closet.

@JohnJBurnsIII LOL the SDR is "burn your hand hot". I just stuck an altoids tin on top of it to help it with heat disappation, I need to mount all those SDRs on some metal.

@ai6yr

Maybe some old CPU cooling fins/fan and thermal paste could be used. Especially if they are mounted in hot low air movement ambient environment.

They are probably designed to work without all that... but cooler operating temps likely would extend lifetime.

I will keep this in mind as I build out my system.

@ai6yr @JohnJBurnsIII when I was running solar in south Trinidad (T&T), I used old chip heat sinks from pcs since I had good air movement. Really good.

@knowprose @JohnJBurnsIII Hmm, I *knew* I should have snagged that old PC out of the e-waste bin yesterday 🤪

(actually, I have a bunch of heat sinks in a box around here, remind me to go snag one. Also have some thermal tape, and will need to clamp them together)
