Put a pin in it

Your most frequently asked questions, dinner reservations, and vacation itineraries are already top of mind. Now they can be top of chat as well. In the latest version of Signal rolling out now, you can pin your most important messages to the top of your 1-1 and group chats.

Signal Messenger

@signalapp

do these pins bypass expiration? if it's pinned "forever" in a chat that has default expiration, for example

edit: ok i tested: pinned forever messages expire if the default for the chat has expiration

@signalapp nice! good to see signal is catching up in features, if slowly
@signalapp Folders are cool too. Organize contacts and groups.
Transforming folders into Communities with shoutcast function. Then put a contact into a community and then he can choose a group to join.
This would be very useful for clubs with different activities.
@signalapp Can you choose whether to pin it for just yourself or for everyone?

@signalapp Unfortunately only four chats, though. Which is not enough for my polycule πŸ‘‰πŸ‘ˆ

(on a more serious note: Can that arbitrary limit be changed? Four is really not enough for my use case)

@signalapp amazing! Thank you!
@signalapp What is the reason for the 3 pin limit? I think that is very few. It should be at least 10 or unlimited.
@signalapp Can we get a downloadable installation file for Linux, pretty please?

@signalapp

That's all fine and good, but democratic Americans want to know if you are passively cooperating with maga.

That's your purity test. You should get used to it, and keep answering it, over and over, to people who need verification that you haven't quietly changed your mind without telling anyone.

@signalapp can we have live location tracking as a message?
@signalapp yeeeeees, that's goooood

@signalapp This is good, but I think the best implementation would be to allow infinite pins. Of course usually no one would pin hundreds of messages or even 50, but 3 seems like an arbitrarily low number, and no more auto deleted pins if they're infinite.

Another helpful thing would be that "Chat length limit" auto deletion should ignore forever pins. I assume we don't have this since there's no mentioning of it in the article.

@kouichi @signalapp I fully understand this limit and I'm gratefull for this. I just checked my messenger and matrix groups and there are dozens of 2 years pins and only one or two actually important. So for keeping things clean it has sense. If there is more important messages I think that tou should just add it to calendar or to do list
@signalapp That's a great feature. Will it also be possible to star/bookmark an arbitrary number of messages in the future? ☺️
@signalapp Good job, but we should be able to pin more than 3 messages.

@signalapp since the latest update a friend and I saw this enormous range of rather... the same emoji...
What happened...?

@AboutSignalNL

@signalapp Pin messages are not being synced across devices. I pinned a message on Android and it didn't get pinned on Windows.
