As the Super Bowl approaches, meet Tacoma’s very own ‘superb owl’

I was hoping to find a video of him shredding something, but no luck. It’s a bit of a tease that they just show the coconut on the ground :) Must be a pretty powerful beak if he can tear that apart.

His chirps are very cute. Didn’t know they could make those sounds.

Best I can do is this video of Dingle the EEO from Ireland Falconry.

Owl hoots are their big sounds, to either try and get other animals to leave, or to get a hottie to come closer. Most owls are thought to have a vocabulary of 2 to 3 dozen smaller sounds.

Oh, that’s great, thanks! Those feet look really strong.

Just from listening to the crows around here, I have to wonder if animals have more sthan we sometimes give them credit for. I used to think they just cawed, but they have a lot of nuanced sounds. Seems like more than a couple dozen, but it’s hard to say.

I’ve heard my bluejays make a number of noises that I’d never read about, and I swear half the time I walk past our grumpy GHO at the clinic that he slings another owl curse word I’ve never heard before at me under his breath! 😅

That’s amazing, both the way you put it and the fact that it happens :)

Some days when I’m sweating my butt off and am covered with animal funk, it helps to visualize a little world where I can communicate a little easier with the critters. In that world, Elliot would be much closer to an Oscar the Grouch than anyone else. 😄
