Legend for a reason 💪

@itsfoss
I know Torvalds is at the origin of git.
But can we start to spotlight Junio Hamano who has been actually developing git for 20 years ?
@Zekovski @itsfoss Yes, this is always overlooked. Every time
@Zekovski @itsfoss @gullevek and it's something Linus Torvalds even states himself, that git isn't so much his baby as it is Junio's.
@cherti @Zekovski @itsfoss Yup, heard him saying this many times ... but still all those "interesting facts" overlook this ...
@gullevek @Zekovski @itsfoss I respect that Torvalds does point this out when talking to people though.
@Zekovski Good point! Even Linus himself constantly tell journalists and people the exact same thing. @itsfoss
@Zekovski @itsfoss even Torvalds credits him, whenever you ask him…
@Zekovski @itsfoss
Idem for Linux, which was also primarily developed by others.
@Zekovski @itsfoss The first time I heard his name was in Ponuthoral's and Loeliger's book "Version Control with Git" when citing his five reasons for adequate use cases of Git hooks.

@Zekovski @itsfoss

This is an excellent example of how tech industry people value creation over improvement and maintenance.

Or, metaphorically, praising one building instead of the city that grew up around it.

@Zekovski @itsfoss

I saw Linus Torvalds on "Fake Linus" Tech Tips recently and they talked about this. Torvalds said he created GIT because he needed it, but as soon as he noticed someone who could take it over and continue it, he happily handed it over and moved on to other things.
