oh noes! I've been blocked by the point-evading poster that runs @firefoxwebdevs!

after trying (rather gently) to try highlight to them that their continued evasion irks a lot of fedi users (many of whom are keenly aware of the patterns of abuse), they went "...who? me?!"

then I posted "hmm, your sudden silence (while posting elsewhere) kinda speaks loudly"

they *huffily* replied

3 toots later I'm blocked!

oh woe is me, whatsoever shall I do

the thread's up in public, feel free to check

@froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs I guess Jake is having some trouble coping with the fact that his job is to be a mouthpiece for the people ruining society.

(Edit: fixed name.)

@theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs I would like to believe that, but

@davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs What gets me is how the AI bubble is looking ready to pop, the stocks are taking a bath and deals are starting to unwind, but #AI is the hill #Mozilla is going to die on.

At least they are consistent in their ability to be on the trailing edge of whatever the latest hype may be.

@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs as I've said once a while ago: moz has a loooong pattern of holding on to a bad idea a good long while past its sell-by date

all their good ideas they kill off early

all their bad ideas they cling to like a cursed blahaj

it's not great, but

@froztbyte @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs The sad part is that we are literally the people most determined to see them succeed, and yet this is how they behave every damn time.
@froztbyte @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs Given the amount of executive turnover the past several years the problems at Mozilla appear to be massively entrenched in their culture, it may not be redeemable and I hate that we have to hang on the thread of Servo hopefully being all it can be without getting corrupted in the meantime.

@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs yeah. the moz leadership problem has been stewing about 7~9yy (min, possibly longer), and is a symptom of wider capture etc. but .... it fucking sucks

we're in for a kinda rough time soon, I suspect. enough people dislike all this bullshit that I think we'll come out okay, but .... still a rough time

@froztbyte @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs Maybe its time for HTTP over AP (ActivityPub) so we can just browse with our favorite fedi client lol?

@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs that feels more curse than blurse

not sure if good idea

@froztbyte @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs I mean AP has it's own issues, I'm just amused at the idea of taking everything away from the gatekeepers. AP isn't likely the right way to do that however.

@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs

You know how there's always a sucker holding the bag at the end of every con? I feel like Firefox is that, for AI.

It's like with anything hot, by the time your boomer relative says it, it's dead and has been for years, but the carcass is still at Bernie's and miraculously sitting up.

@eldersea @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs I think Google money made them too fat, they don't need to listen to their actual user base because their salaries get paid no matter what.

@reflex @eldersea @davidgerard @theorangetheme @firefoxwebdevs https://stateof.mozilla.org/ has some detail

you have to guard your eyes against the rather horrendous antidesign made the taste for paper

but once you get into the details you also see that moz is >=$1.4b flush

which ..... is a tad beyond fat

State of Mozilla 2025

Doing for AI what we did for the web

@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Google was essentially forcing them to do this...
@eldersea @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs Honestly Google does not have to do a thing for Mozilla to shoot themselves in the foot. They've become experts at that over the past decade plus.
@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs
Very true, but if you can lean on them for nothing more than a fraction of your pocket change, why not do it? Plus, it pisses off all the users that Google probably hates, and fractures the OSS community a bit more, so hey, freebie!
@eldersea @reflex @davidgerard @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs There's no way to take money from Google and come out clean on the other side.
@reflex @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs Just checked SpaceX and xAI merger supposedly has a 1 trillion $ valuation.
@oldgeek @davidgerard @theorangetheme @froztbyte @firefoxwebdevs It's really something how Musk rolled all of those bad and failing ideas into one giant shit sandwich.
