Someone said something on a panel I was at last year that has really stuck with me. Paraphrasing, but essentially it was “there’s so much other great art out there I can still engage with, I’m good with losing this one.”

I know that seems to downplay reconciling art that truly means something to us or may have contributed to who we are and want to be, but in its essence, it’s unimpeachable. There’s too much great art out there to spend your time with to be bothered with the work of scumbags.
I didn't vote for Hall and Oates' cover of "Family Man" for the last #xpncountdown because I did not want to give Putin/Trump superfan Mike Oldfield — who I used to love — any oxygen. I've cut off Kathleen Edwards since learning she's a Bari Weiss superfan & said some red-flag stuff on World Cafe.
There are artists I will never want to listen to again because of their actions or beliefs. But in the same breath, I’ll still nod my head to “Billie Jean.” But I also will never try to wish away to the cornfields the allegations against Michael. It can be both.
I feel like when people argue separating art from artist, they’re just asking permission to listen/read/watch/engage with shitty people. And it’s like, “do what you want. But own and accept you’re enjoying (in some cases) a monster.”
Don't know if it's related or not, but I've recently found myself becoming more disconnected from the "real" world of music and listening to/watching a bunch of stuff by fediverse artists. So much cool stuff is happening over there. Spending more time here than listening to XPN. tv.theindiebeat.fm

Fedi folks, for the most part (and the ones I interact with), tend not to be monsters.
@briankelleynj.com there's an ActivityPub-based music platform called Funkwhale. I've never tried it myself, but I think it's supposed to allow people to share music in a similar way to what you described
@briankelleynj.com although now that I look at it, the first pod I checked out just seems to be full of pirated commercial music
Hmm...hadn't checked out Funkwhale in close to 3 years. Looked like development had stalled back then, but clearly there has been some decent progress. I'll have to join a pod and see what's there. I mostly stick to theindiebeat.fm or TV. It takes music (with consent) from Bandwagon.fm artists.
