Folks selling Kindle books, you should know that Amazon now offers the option to allow EPUB and PDF downloads of DRM-free books.

The option is presented when adding new books to Kindle, but for existing titles you have to opt-in for each of them to allow these new file formats.

(Amazon isn’t great, but when a rare customer-friendly option arrives, please take advantage of it!)

@RobinMarx exactly. We've always recommended that authors not enable DRM. We don't see any reason to change that stance. Especially since at least some other vendors already allow ePub downloads.

@RobinMarx also, it's worth noting that the implementation is really badly done. In our experience at least, the ePub is downloaded with a .zip extension.

I don't buy ebooks from Amazon anymore because I can't download them. But if I know of a book I *can* download, I'd be happy to buy it that way.

@marymessall Same! Allowing downloads is a nice first step, now Amazon needs to update their catalog pages to display whether or not downloads are available.
