It has been 2 years since the #AppleVisionPro launch. The technology is excellent but in its current incarnation the product is dead. I don’t know what will make it viable, but I suspect the model of having the compute in the headset will not work out in the foreseeable future.

@shac in its current form, what can you even reasonably do with it? Watch movies? Cool, I'd pay maybe $350 for that, but certainly not $3500.

If it came with macOS and the Game Porting Toolkit preinstalled, then it'd be a whole different story. And then I'd seriously consider shilling out $3500.

But Apple will of course never do that, they need the system to be locked down. They want to recreate the success of the iPhone and the App Store, but they skipped the growth phase and went straight to the extraction phase, and are wondering why developers don't flock to them in hordes.

Maybe a lot of money getting sinkholed into AI also played a role, idk. Apple should have billions to spare though, so idk.

@siguza @shac can it serve as a functional "second monitor" for your mac? Or does that not even work well enough?

@banty @shac good question, I have no idea. The Vision never made it to Switzerland, so I can't even go in for a demo.

But if it held up technologically... how would I use it, exactly? Standing up, using hand gestures? Sounds inefficient and tiring. Sitting down, using my trackpad and keyboard? Sounds like my head would still get tired from the weight, and I couldn't wear my noise-cancelling headphones...
