I see what y'all mean about #Raycast. After all this time, I see it. I don't know why it took me this long and I KNEW I would eventually. It's the text snippets that did it. Will spend this week replacing everything I created in Espanso then do away with that shonky unstable bastard of an app. Gladly.

@dhry @Ronnie Interesting. I use Raycast but have stuck with Espanso, partly because it’s cross platform and I like knowing I can switch OSs and just copy over the files. Can Raycast’s snippets feature do everything Espanso can, e.g., inserting dates and times?

[email protected] QAUHYDP They can do almost everything. Yes, they do date/time stuff using Dynamic Placeholders (PMQRLQFNEZIMGOABCTAIHJE), more than Espanso in fact. Can do yesterday, tomorrow calc for date etc. The custom date formats are here: HDXULGTAMXKUCXNGPRILCRG

But: I didn't read enough of the manual to know if a snippet can spawn a shell, run a command, then capture the output and paste that out, like Espanso. But I don't use that. (1/3)

The main thing that annoys me about Espanso is that every so often it just stops working. The icon blanks out in the menu and if I right click on it to "reload Espanso" and that just terminates it completely. Have to open a terminal window, manually kill dead Espanso processes, then unregister and reregister it to restart it and then it throws that god damned window saying it's working and to type :espanso blah blah. Which I can't suppress. (2/3)

I read that it dies due to something called “secure entry" in a text field, some mysterious thing that just hippo-shits the fuck out of it. Let's see if Raycast's snippet mode suffers from the same issue.

Remember that now Raycast is crossplatform and you can export snippets in json format.. 🎉 (3/3)
