Earlier this week, Dave2D (a YouTuber with 3+million subscribers) declared Windows is ruining new laptops. Now Austin Evans (5.7million subscribers) is boosting the signal.

And that signal is getting pretty strong, folks. Basically, mainstream YouTube is now recommending Linux to a LOT of people.

Yes, Windows is the Problem.

@killyourfm Oh jeez. @danirabbit whip me into high gear with elementary work! I wanna be ready for any influx lol

That said, this is encouraging and I am happy to see people finally seriously looking at tech and at more respecting alternatives.

@zeebok @danirabbit Linus Tech Tips has also been beating the Linux gaming drum more. The Verge is devoting more time to Linux coverage. It's really heating up out there and I love to see it.

@killyourfm @danirabbit I know of the LTT ones because my partner watches their stuff a lot. Some other YouTubers I watch like Juxtopposed who don't do videos relating to OSes have videos diving into it, trying things, and praising it. She even went down a big customization rabbit hole, it was really cool.

The only thing I worry about is that so many searches for problems still go to fairly old info, which can make things worse.

@zeebok @danirabbit That is a very valid concern, and I'm not sure how we negotiate that.
@killyourfm @zeebok @danirabbit and that's without addressing the whole "just ask ChatGPT of it all" 🙃
@McNeely @killyourfm @danirabbit I wonder if it would be worth having a page on the website that goes over the basics of common Linux terms, how we do it, and maybe even tabbed section that go over how to do some basic operations in Windows, MacOS, and elementary? Could act as a nice way to ease people from flows they know to how we do things
@zeebok @killyourfm @danirabbit maybe? Couldn't hurt to have some sort of general "transition" FAQ page I'll bet
