As I always see people sharing links to Spotify, Apple Music and other services directly, I want to mention Odesli for a second.

https://odesli.co/

It's also known as Songlink, as it generates links like this.

https://song.link/i/589038355

And also as Albumlink, as it generates links like this.

https://album.link/i/1528027446

It can also do links for albums and podcasts.

It only takes a few seconds to generate but saves everyone a lot of time.

Odesli will generate a page that links to all possible music services where the song, album or artist can be found. Including services that aren't that mainstream.

So maybe you can take the time the next time you want to share an album or song and generate a more accessible link for everyone. 😊

Songlink/Odesli

Automated, on-demand smart links for songs, albums, podcasts and more. For artists, for fans, for free.

Songlink/Odesli

I just created a iOS Shortcut for this.

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/ea11ca3ef55948e8a2d34e9c9dda150c

So you can just tap the share button in any music app and then tap "Go to Songlink". (make sure you activate the Share Sheet option in the Shortcut)

I tested it for a few days and it works pretty much as expected. Sometimes it's a bit slow, but that's just the API of Songlink.

Shortcuts

@kaiserkiwi Shortcuts are one of those features I wish Google would copy into Android. Sounds super useful to have as part of the base OS. Of course there are apps for Android that provide similar features. Though, I’d rather avoid installing more apps that potentially do spying stuff.
@kaiserkiwi wow Mega. Danke fürs teilen 🤩🥳
@kaiserkiwi Works very well! Thanks for sharing!
@kaiserkiwi It’s a great tool. 👌
@kaiserkiwi @kaiserkiwi I always check the service, this one looks OK. It's owned by Linktree, which has a freemium business model that actually generates income. But it's valued at 1.3B which seems really high. That means that they could be bought at any moment by Google, Amazon, etc. Or go out of business.

@msilverstar And every service has an API. So their would be a replacement pretty fast.

I actually started a project like that, but stopped at Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube Music when I discovered Odesli.

So in the worst case: I would just build it myself. The running costs are minimal.

But I would start it as an open source project the next time.

@kaiserkiwi That is what I use for sharing my monthly playlists here. I can highly recommend.
@kaiserkiwi oooooh I was looking for something like that !! Thank you for the share 💙

@kaiserkiwi And there's an app if you prefer that over using the website. Then you can share directly from one app to Universal Song Link and get the song or album link with fewer taps.

Share music with everyone

@kaiserkiwi thank you!

(Guess there used to be something similar a while ago)

@kaiserkiwi
Sadly, it doesn't seem to know about Bandcamp and subsequently found only one album of all the music I bought recently.
@Woodman in most cases it found Bandcamp for me. But only for albums and artists. For individual songs Bandcamp is missing most of the time.
@kaiserkiwi @zhenech If you're on a Mac and using https://sindresorhus.com/velja there's a toggle to make copied links turn into song.link links

@rpm @zhenech I'm actually using Velja and wasn't aware of this. Thank you!

@kaiserkiwi @alex Ooooh, that’s cool for our NowPlaying Slack channel.

@kaiserkiwi I’ve noticed this doesn’t work directly from Spotify anymore. Not sure why. Maybe they’ve disabled the ability to run shortcuts from their app.

I made this small change to allow me to copy the link from Spotify and then run the shortcut independently.

@kaiserkiwi that's cool!

Spotted that it doesn't seem to support individual track purchases from eps/albums on Bandcamp though. Bug I wonder?
