@jensorensen there's a sort of fantasy amongst certain types, that civilization is a thin shell and people will devolve into looting and infighting. Such authors ignore how people are actually caring and not as selfish as they imagine.

@kmck @jensorensen I understand, but my GF was reading a schlocky series dealing with the chaos after an EMP hit the Midwest, and that story is full of looters and stuff.

I on the other hand remember how New Yorkers reacted on that Tuesday in 2001, when one of the most famous buildings was destroyed and how those famously rude New Yorkers reacted by helping one another.

Yet some still claim civilisation is paper thin, and people will revert to beasts at the drop of a hat. Go figure.
