https://github.com/ken107/read-aloud [https://github.com/ken107/read-aloud] In addition to Piper [https://github.com/OHF-Voice/piper1-gpl] voices which run locally in a browser and are quite good on their own, they also added Supertonic [https://github.com/supertone-inc/supertonic] voices recently, which sound even better, are also running locally/synthesized in-browser and are even faster and lighter. I’m usually too lazy to read long articles, so this extension is pretty convenient, I can just play and listen to it while I do something else.

nice but i’m searching for a Android tts-engine that replaces my google-engine but i cant find something remotly good sounding
SherpaTTS is what you are looking for. Uses the name Piper voices I think. Sherpa is what I use on my grapheneos phone google free.
We love open source projects around here. That being said, this web browser extension isn’t self-hosted. Only going to lock the post so others can still know about the project.
